Empire Chapter is proud to announce our February Technical Meeting. The next meeting
will take place on Thursday February 18th, 2016. This month we welcome Manfred Keil, Professor of
Economics, Claremont McKenna College. Professor Keil has been
a professor of economics at Claremont McKenna College since 1995. He was the
Chair of the Faculty of the Department of Economics and The Robert Day School
of Economics and Finance from 2006-2009. His expertise is in macroeconomics,
comparative economic performance, and statistics/econometrics. Prof. Keil has
led an important summer exchange program with Yonsei University, Korea since
its inception in 2011, and has developed his Silicon Valley Program course,
Quantitative Data Analysis, taught to approximately 15 students in the CMC
program there. He is a Fellow of the Rose Institute (CMC) and a Research
Associate of the Lowe Institute (CMC), where he leads the joint CMC-UCLA
Anderson School Forecast for the Inland Empire. His current research involves minimum
wages and employment trends, and business cycle analysis. Professor Keil earned
his PhD in economics from the London School of Economics. He earned a Master of
Science in econometrics and mathematical economics from LSE, and a Master of
Arts in economics at the University of Texas, Austin. Professor Keil will
be presenting an economic presentation titled “Good News Bad News for the
Inland Empire” Some highlights
include: • 2nd Fastest Growing MSA in CA • Employment has recovered to pre-recession levels, but output has not… • High value generating sectors, manufacturing and construction, have been replaced by lower-paying sectors, health and education services and leisure and hospitality.
